Description
The Therapeutic After-School Program (TASP) provides a wide range of preventive services to at-risk children ages 8 to 16, and to their families. TASP provides year-round programming, including a 6 week summer session.
Program components include educational support, recreational activities, art projects, pre-vocational training, and counseling. Meals are provided throughout the year. Families are invited to the program for treatment team planning and a variety of social opportunities.
Social workers provide individual, family and group counseling. The program works on the principle of working with the strengths of the entire family unit to support change.
The summer program offers a structured day camp consisting of swim instruction, cooperative games and work opportunities.
Success Story
"Ron" began attending the Therapeutic After-School Program (TASP) at age 14 due to problematic behaviors at home and at school. His family attended regular family counseling sessions and worked on a variety of communication and parenting skills. Ron also attended individual counseling and was able to address several issues regarding family interactions and his mental health.
Ron, three years later, is graduating from high school and going into the military so he can attend college. He wants to be an engineer and feels the military is the best way to gain much-needed experience while earning money for college. Ron credits the TASP program with helping him through school and giving him a sense of security and confidence.
TASP enjoys a 94% success rate of maintaining children in their homes.
