Description
The Day Treatment Program is a unique, twelve-month school program which integrates intensive clinical and special education services. This program, which is dually certified by the Office of Mental Health and the State Education Department, provides out-patient services to children and their families living in Broome, Chenango and Delaware Counties.
The primary reasons for referral are mental health issues and/or an inability to function appropriately in their home and school settings. The treatment team includes: psychiatrist, psychologist, social worker, special education teacher and teacher aide, nurse, speech therapist, and a remedial reading teacher. Day Treatment is a strengths- based program that helps children meet their belonging and mastery needs by providing psychotherapy and skills building services in addition to emotional, behavioral and academic support.
The parents' support group and children's play groups are very successful, with parents expressing a high level of satisfaction with the programs. Respite and skill building services provided have also been very helpful to children and families and have been instrument in helping children succeed at remaining in their local communities.
