The goal of the Detention Alternative Reporting Team (DART) program is to provide a safe and structured environment for at-risk youth who are involved with the Family Court system, either post or pre-disposition, through provision of a tightly scheduled after-school program.
The primary purpose of the DART program is to reduce the use of detention. This community-based program offers the Broome County Probation Department and Family Court judges an alternative to detention. Youth involved in the program remain in the community and attend public school, but report after school to the Children's Home campus for five hours of structured learning, recreation and group activities. Six hours of activities take place on Saturday at the Children's Home's Wilderness Adventure Program (WAP).
Referrals to the DART program are made through the Broome County Probation Department or Broome County Family Court.
